After eight years in the House of Delegates voting consistently for Eastern Shore values, Johnny took on the incumbent and made the case directly to District 37 — Annapolis had changed, the threats to the Shore had grown, and the seat needed new ideas and new energy if the region was going to stop playing defense.

It was a contested Republican primary in a district that doesn’t take primaries lightly. Johnny didn’t hide behind party machinery. He went door to door, farm to farm, watermen’s hall to volunteer fire hall, and trusted Eastern Shore voters to make the call.

They did. Johnny won the primary in a landslide and carried the seat through to the Senate in November — proof that when you show up, listen, and tell people the truth about what Annapolis is doing to them, the Shore responds.
